Vonulrick “Von” Martin

Vonulrick “Von” Martin, has a track record of not only being a ‘community’ man but a professional media broadcaster with a career spanning over 45 years. He worked as the only English speaking broadcaster for the Organization of American States (OAS) for eighteen (18) years prior to retiring in 2008. Now he continues to be a broadcaster, producer and dean of Caribbean culture on a weekly basis through WPFW 89.3 FM airwaves and Caribbeana.org.

In 2008 he founded, with his family, Caribbeana Communications Inc. to serve as the coalition and institution of Caribbean affairs and institutional arm of his earlier radio program called Caribbeana Radio. He founded Caribbeana Radio Services in 1975 and went on air in 1977 as one of the first radio personalities of WPFW 89.3 FM. Born in Port-of- Spain, Trinidad and living in the Washington, DC Metropolitan area in the United States for 40 years.

During this time he has cultivated a culture by using his given talent and love for radio. Von is a historical expert on the State-of- the-Arts of the Caribbean, Africa and the Americas.  He defines Caribbean music of past and present generations as a cultural expression of life and seeks to meet the needs of the Caribbean Diaspora by providing substance and style to his work.

Known as an authority among his listeners in the Caribbean, Caribbean-American, and Diaspora communities, Von’s radio programs are inspiring and innovative and keeping his listeners informed via music and events. Now through Caribbeana Communications he continues his passions to the next level while training the next generation to come. Currently he is in production of producing his first book on Caribbean Culture and its
